Abstract

1,223,874. Pneumatic suspension systems for motor vehicle trains. AUTOBRZDY JABLONEC NARODNI PODNIK. 29 April, 1968 [20 June, 1967], No. 20157/68. Heading B7D. A motor vehicle train having a pneumatic suspension system for maintaining constant ground clearance thereof, comprising a towing vehicle having two tandem (or single) axles 1 and 2, and a trailer having one tandem (or single) axle 3, comprises at least two pneumatic suspension springs 18-21 near the ends of the front axle 1, four pneumatic suspension springs 22-25 near the ends of the axle 2, and at least two pneumatic suspension springs 26-29 near the ends of the axle 3, one of the axles 1 and 2, e.g. 1 being associated with two height control valves 35; 36 connected to springs 21 and 29; 20 and 28, and the other axle, e.g. 2 being associated with one height control valve 37 connected to springs 22; 23, and the axle 3 being associated with two height control valves 38; 39 connected to springs 26 and 24; 27 and 25, all the valves 35-39 being connected to a compressed air source 17 and controlled in dependence on the ground clearance of the vehicle body which is determined by the static load on the vehicle, wherein the axle 2 is supported by the springs 24; 25 connected to the two valves 38; 39, as well as by the springs 22; 23 connected to the one valve 37. In another embodiment, the valves are similarly disposed but the connections thereof to the springs are different. In other embodiments, the one valve is associated with the front axle 1 and is connected to springs 18; 19, the two valves associated with the axle 2 are connected to springs 22, 20; 23 and 21, and the two valves associated with the axle 3 are connected to springs 28, 26 and 24; 29, 27 and 25; alternative connections of the springs and valves may be made. In a further embodiment, two springs support the axle 1, four springs the axle 2, and two springs the axle 3, and the one valve is associated with the axle 2.
