Abstract
1,231,607. Valves. B. C. RICHARDS & CO. PTY. Ltd. 9 Sept., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 42861/68. Heading F2V. A rotary ball valve includes a body 10, an assembly port 11 in the body, two opposed parallel surfaces 15 within the body rebated around an inlet to and an outlet from the body, a sealing assembly 19, 20, 22 in each rebate projecting beyond the respective surface and resiliently retractable, and a spherical closure 16 having an annular area 18 cut back from the spherical configuration surrounding each end of an aperture 17 therethrough, the apertured ends of the closure fitting with a small clearance between the surfaces 15 and, when so fitted, pressing the front ends of the sealing assemblies towards the surfaces 15. The radius r from the centre of the closure to any point on the area 18 is made less than the radius R of the closure which is rotated by a projection 24 on a shaft 25 fitted with a handle 37. A circular flange 40 locates the closure in the body which is fitted with a cover 12 and a sealing ring 32. Further sealing rings 26, 27 are fitted to the shaft 25. Each sealing assembly engaging the closure 16 consists of a spring washer 19, a rigid backing ring 20, and a resilient sealing ring 22.
