Abstract
1,232,549. Wells &c. DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc. 30 Sept., 1969 [1 Oct., 1968], No. 47990/69. Heading E1F. In a well packer comprising a hollow stinger 24, a mandrel 42 releasably connected to the stinger, a valve housing 78 having an opening 94 for one end of the stinger and an opening 98 communicating the housing interior with the well bore, and a valve member 82, the stinger when connected to the mandrel engages the valve member to hold it away from the openings and when released from the mandrel is out of engagement with the valve member to permit it to close either opening according to the direction of flow through the mandrel. The packer and a setting device 14 are lowered into the well on a pipe string 22, the stringer being connected to the mandrel by a nut 36. At the packer setting position, the string is rotated to free the device and the packer is set by raising the string, the resultant expansion of slips 20 freeing them from the device. When the string is rotated to release the stringer from the mandrel, the device, stringer and string may be removed from the well. The member 82 has a specific gravity of 1.2 which is less than that of the cement which passes through the housing.
