Abstract

1,232,846. Lever-actuated switches. VIFVITALONI S.A.S. DI VITALONI MARIO, GIOVANNI & C. 4 June, 1968 [3 June, 1967], No. 26509/68. Heading H1N. [Also in Division G4] Switches 28, 29, Fig. 6, for controlling the direction indicators and main lights of a motor vehicle are mounted on a common bracket 1 attached to a fixed part of the steering column (not shown) having actuators 55, 116 on the same side of the column with their pivots 58, 118 extending substantially parallel to the column. The assembly is encased in a common cover 38 having a slot 44 for the actuators and apertures 40, 41 providing access to the mounting screws. The direction indicator switch is automatically returned to the off position by teeth 24 on a split tubular member 15 attached to the steering shaft (not shown). In operation of the direction indicator arm 53, Fig. 11, a spring member 67 keyed thereto has a pair of arms 70, 701 having camming faces 80, 801 engageable with spring arms 86, 861 attached to pawl 82. Movements of the arm 53 in either direction thereby urges the pawl 82 towards the steering shaft 15. As in Fig. 11 the pawl 82, permits a tooth 24 to pass during clockwise rotation of the shaft 15 but on reverse rotation during straightening out of the steering, one tooth 24 causes the pawl 82 to rotate anticlockwise whereby its end 87 engages the inner end of arm 701 to restore the lever 53 to its central position. In a detent device for the switches, the lever arm such as 116, Fig. 8, carries a pair of spring- loaded balls 123, 127 engageable respectively with separate staggered sets of detent teeth 124, 128. The contact arrangement whereby a spring- loaded disc 139 engages selected fixed contacts 147, 148, 149 is described and claimed in the divided Specification 1,232,847.
