Abstract

1,243,779. Knitting-machines. BENTLEY ENG. CO. Ltd. 12 Sept., 1968 [27 Sept., 1967], No. 43894/67. Heading D1C. In a yarn feeder mechanism, swivelling of the feeder cage 16 normally effected upon a feed change to prevent the incoming feeder fouling the latches, is over-ridden when a particular feeder 14 is introduced. Fouling by this particular feeder is individually avoided. The swivelling is thus over-ridden when, in knitting the first courses of a sock, an elastic yarn is introduced to be fed with the main yarn, which would otherwise tend to be pulled from the needles. The introduction of feeders is controlled by individually racked cam wheels mounted on a common axis. A bluff bar 11 controlling the cam wheel pawls is so arranged that normally when a yarn is introduced cam wheel 21 is rotated thereby raising arm 23 fixed to the axis 24 of the cage 16 which is thus swivelled. The elastic feeder 14 includes a U- shaped arm in a unit at the end of the stem 14b and spring urged towards the cylinder. When bar 11 is moved to introduce feeder 14 rotation of cam 21 is prevented so that the cage remains stationary. A cam 10a however pulls cable 28 to withdraw the feeder.
