Abstract
1,243,913. Energy-absorbing devices. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT, and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT. 12 March, 1969 [13 March, 1968], No. 13120/69. Heading F2E. In a mechanical energy-absorbing device 1, permitting absorption of kinetic energy by plastic deformation, the device is in the form of a substantially flat metal plate 2 having a central fastening point 4, 8 and a plurality of lateral fastening points 3, 7. The metal plate 2 is provided with a series of arcuate slots 5 disposed in a concentric manner, the slots of one series being angularly displaced in relation to those of the adjacent series such that upon the application of a certain force the configuration of the plate 2 will change from that shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2.
