Abstract

1,246,364. Gathode-ray tubes. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd 23 June, 1969 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 31588/69. Heading H1D. [Also in Divisions G1, G2-G3. and H4] In an image transmission system a fibre optics element 10, comprising a plurality of individual fibres and having a face inclined to the main fibre axis, is incorporated into a cathode-ray tube 13 and has one surface coated with phosphor to act as the luminescent screen. Light emitted by electron impact proceeds along the fibres, illuminates an object 11 and is then received by two photo-detectors 16. In a vidicon (Fig. 8), the light from an object 11 enters an element 10b and proceeds to a transparent electrode 17 coated with a photoconductive layer 18 and causes a resistance change which can be detected by scanning the layer with an electron beam. Image signals are picked up in an RC network connected to the electrode. The Specification also gives details with reference to Fig. 12 (not shown) of a procedure to test the uniformity of illumination of the exit surface of the element by using two photodetectors (26) linked to a difference detector network (27) and a feedback arrangement (28, 15).
