Abstract

1,248,644. Jointing by forging; grinding. BELL AEROSPACE CORP. 10 Nov., 1969 [19 Nov., 1968], No. 54885/69. Headings B3D and B3H. [Also in Division F2] A pair of metal parts of a valve structure are secured together by deforming a metal insert 64, Fig. 4, into continuous opposed grooves 51, 54 on the parts. The parts may have a pair of grooves 34-37, Fig. 3, and be joined by deforming a first insert 41, placing a hard metal ring 42 over the first insert and deforming a second insert 44. The insert may be aluminium or tantalum. The parts are separated by abrading away the insert with an annular tool of similar shape to the press tool 62 or by erosion with a caustic solution.
