Abstract

1,249,349. Feeding and delivering sheets; cutting apparatus. J. A. BLACK. 17 Oct., 1968. [18 Oct., 1967], No. 49376/68. Heading B8R. Sheets are fed to and through a longitudinal slitting and/or scoring station 90 by a reciprocating table 30 which draws a sheet from feed table 20 as it moves from beneath the table 20 to a position 301 shown dotted, Fig. 3. Feeding sheets; registering; feed tables; faulty feed.-A sheet to be cut is laid on table 20 and registered against side guide 22 and front stops 83, Fig. 3. Table 30 is reciprocated from beneath the table 20 to grip the leading edge of the sheet by means of suction apertures (34, Fig. 14, not shown) in the leading edge of the table 30. Stops 83 are moved out of the path of the sheet on a pivotable shaft 81. Suction apertures (23, Fig. 14) adjacent guide 22 sense for correct registration of a sheet against the guide. Incorrect registration causes tripping of the cutting device. Table 20 is laterally adjustable. Delivering sheets; cutting apparatus.-A sheet carried on table 30 is longitudinally slit and/or scored by laterally adjustable knives 99 carried on bar 93. The slit and/or scored portions are gripped by suction pads 127 when table 30 reaches the end of its stroke. Pads 127 are carried on vertically reciprocating carriage 120. As table 30 returns to its initial position beneath table 20 the gripped portions are retained by the pads and lowered on to stacking table 170. The stacking table is lowered as the pile accumulates in response to the detection of the level of the pile by assembly 120. Suction pads 127 are laterally adjustable in accordance with the position of knives 99. Laterally adjustable strips 185, Fig. 1, serve to align the stack.
