Abstract
1,252,395. Tobacco-smoke filter. H-2-O FILTER CORP. 12 Oct., 1970 [16 Oct., 1969], No. 48359/70. Heading A2C. The filter comprises a substantially cylindrical housing 12 and, disposed within each end thereof, a conventional filter rod 15, 16, and disposed between the rods 15, 16, compressed absorbent expansible sponge material 17 and at least one rupturable container 18 having a fluid 19 content, the rod 15 being slidable axially of the filter so as to be capable of fracturing the container(s) 18 to moisten the sponge material 17 and being movable towards the other filter rod 16 by a greater or lesser distance so as to vary the compression of the moistened sponge material 17 obtainable and hence also the filtration efficiency of the filter. The filter may be connected to a cigarette 11 or to a cigar, or may be incorporated in a smokers’ pipe.
