Abstract
1,252,478. Electrostatic spraying apparatus. TUNZINI-SAMES. 17 Dec., 1969 [17 Dec., 1968], No. 61492/69. Heading B2F. An object is coated with a layer of powder by a current of air conveying the powder from a spray nozzle, across an ionisation zone created by a conductive member; the air being expanded in the nozzle, and the spread of the spray jet being regulated by the flow of an auxiliary jet of air which coaxially whirls about the air current conveying the powder, between a direct jet formation and a wide spread of the spray. As shown the nozzle comprises a conductive conduit 2, and an insulating conduit 3 which together with inner core 4 defines an annular channel. The core 4 is conductive and is supported from conduit 2 by conductive arms 7, it widens into a radial edge 5 forming an electrode which can be raised to a high voltage, and terminates in an insulated dome 6. The conduit 3 terminates at a rounded outer edge 8 which incorporates passages 9 communicating with outer annular conduit 10. The passages 9 are substantially tangentially inclined in transverse planes with respect to the inner surface of the nozzle conduit, and also forwardly in the axial direction by 15. The core 4 and conduit 2 are connected by cable 16 to a high voltage source, the cable passing through the barrel 14 along with the powder feed tube 1. The shape of the powder spray can be adjusted by varying the flow of air introduced into conduit 10.
