Abstract

1,262,103. Machine tool details. T. J. VIERSMA, and P. BLOK. 14 Feb., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 8226/69. Heading B3B. [Also in Division G3] A control arrangement for a machine tool comprises a duct 24 which has a flow restriction 22 at one end and can be connected through this restriction to a source of liquid at constant pressure and which has an outlet aperture 21 at the other end, and a movable surface 25 arranged to close the outlet aperture 21 to a variable extent, the surface 25 being movable by a command device 18, and the pressure in the duct 24 serving as a control signal for a main control valve 12, 13, wherein the movable surface 25 is formed by the surface of a lead screw, and the aperture 21 is formed in a movable part 20 coupled to the main valve 12, 13. The space 7 on one side of the piston 3 of a servomotor is in communication with the liquid at constant pressure, whilst the other side 9 communicates, via aperture 30, with the duct 24. A restriction 10 ensures that the pressure in chamber 9 is at a constantly low level. On rotation of the lead screw 17, the pressure balance on the piston 3 is disturbed, for example, by closing aperture 21 to raise the pressure in duct 24. Thus diaphragm 13 tends to close the aperture 12 shutting off flow to the chamber 9 and the piston 3 moves to the right in a follow up action. To deviate any side thrust on the part 20, a plurality of outlet apertures 21 may be provided, distributed evenly and in a helix corresponding to the screwthread. In an alternative construction (Fig. 3, not shown) the pre-control arrangement supplies two control pressures, each derived from one flank of the lead screw, which vary in phase opposition. In this case the piston is stationary, the cylinder moving in a follow up action. Another arrangement (not illustrated) comprises arranging the lead screw 19 for axial movement instead of the part 20.
