Abstract

1,262,372. Electric heating. LIBBEY-OWENS-FORD CO. 30 April, 1969 [15 May, 1968], No. 22021/69. Heading E1R. [Also in Divisions C1, F4, H3 and H5] An electrically heated double-glazed window 11 for a refrigerated display cabinet, (not shown), comprises two transparent non-conducting sheets 13, 14, joined at their peripheries to enclose a sealed air space 16 in which a plurality of spaced elongated resistance strips 19 are adhered to the surface of at least one sheet 14. Bus bars 20, 21, 22, connect the strips 19 for passage of current therethrough between lines 29, 30, connected to the bus bars 21, 22, via insulated conductors 25 and terminals 23. The resistance strips 19 comprise a silver paint/glass enamel mixture applied to sheet 14 by a silk screen process and then fired, a suitable silver paste containing 35% silver, 50% glass frit and 15% organic binders and solvent. Gold, palladium and platinum, or conducting materials containing an organic adhesive rather than a glass frit, may be used alternatively. The unit window 11 has a metal separator strip 15, but an alternative unit 12, Figs. 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, (not shown), comprises two glass sheets 31, 32, fused together at their edges. A further alternative uses a separator strip of plastics material bonded to the two sheets with suitable adhesive U.S.A. Specification 3,263,063 is mentioned.
