Abstract
1,267,472. Laminates. U.S. PLYWOODCHAMPION PAPERS Inc. 6 April, 1970, No. 16107/70. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4-C5] Laminates may be prepared by rubbing one or more of the surfaces to be bonded with a stick of an adhesive composition having a melting point of 190‹ to 201‹ F., a penetration (100 g./5 sec. at 77‹ F.) of 16 to 20 and a density of 0À9 to 1À1 g./ml. and comprising (1) 25 to 40 weight per cent of an amorphous polypropylene having a hardness penetration of 20 at 25‹ C., (2) 2 to 10 weight per cent of an amorphous polypropylene having a hardness penetration of 4 at 25‹ C., (3) 3 to 13 weight per cent of rosin, (4) 2 to 10 weight per cent of a vicinal glycol having a melting point of 60‹ to 70‹ C., (5) 33 to 62 weight per cent of a wax mixture of ceresin wax, hard microcrystalline wax and a hard wax, and (b) 0À05 to À5 weight per cent of an antioxidant, whereby the adhesive is softened and transferred to the surfaces which are then bonded under pressure. Specified materials which may be bonded are paper, cloth, leather, fabrics, wood and other porous materials. The wax mixture preferably contains 20 to 35% white ceresin wax, 12 to 20% hard microcrystalline wax and 1 to 7% refined carnauba wax, and the antioxidant may be butylated hydroxytoluene.
