Abstract
1,267,611. Drawing. TH. KIESERLING & ALBRECHT. 12 Feb., 1970 [18 Aug., 1969], No. 6918/70. Heading B3P. A tube end is pointed by pushing it into engagement with a drawing die 3, supporting the outer wall of the tube 4 by an hydraulic medium in a zone 12 in front of the die 3 and thereafter pushing the tube 4 through the die 3 to complete the pointing. In operation, valves S1 and S2 are operated so that fluid is delivered by a pump 15 to cylinders 9, 10 causing the tube 4 to be clamped by jaws 11, 11a and to cylinders 7c, 8c causing them to be moved to the right relative to stationary pistons 7b, 8b. The tube end is thereby pushed into die 3 with the force being controlled by a pressure-adjusting valve V1, whereupon valve S3 is actuated to allow fluid to be supplied through conduits 18, 18a, 18b into the annular space 12. When a preselected pressure has been reached, valve S3 is reversed and valve S4 operated to connect conduits 18a, 18b with conduit 22 so that the pressure in the space 12 is determined by a reservoir 23. The pressure in the zone 12 is controlled by a device 24-27 connected to the circuit for moving the tube 4. When the desired pressure in the space 12 is reached, a valve S5 is actuated to disconnect valve V1 so that the full pressure may be applied to the cylinders 7c, 8c to push the tube 4 through the die 3. The pointed tube 4 may then be gripped by a carriage 1 and drawn using a mandrel 37.
