Abstract

1,268,286. Heating by RF fields. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP. 29 Sept., 1970 [9 Oct., 1969], No. 46153/70. Heading H5H. [Also in Divisions C1 and C7] A filament 18 is coated by pyrolytic decomposition by heating it in a R.F. field in the presence of a compound. The filament is drawn upwardly or downwardly through a quartz reaction tube 10 having seals 12. The tube is received in a quarter wave tuned coaxial cavity coupler 20, having two cavities 22, 24. A variable capacitor 34 is connected between an inductor tube 30 and the enclosure 26. In order to confine the energy to a selected area of the filament, the outer end of each enclosure 26 has a resonant energy trap 36 tunable by a variable capacitor 38. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) a single quarter wave, tuned, coaxial cavity coupler is used.
