Abstract

1,268,910. Polyamide heat-crimpable composite yarns. SOC. RHODIACETA. 20 Nov., 1969 [21 Nov., 1968; 25 Sept., 1969], No. 56963/69. Heading B5B. A heat-crimpable multifilament yarn is made up of composite filaments of either the conjugate or the sheath-core type and comprises a polyhexamethylene adipamide component and a component consisting of a copolyamide prepared from hexamethylene diammonium adipate and a further salt derived from a dicarboxylic acid containing 6 to 12 carbon atoms and a cycloalkane diamine of the formula NH 2 -R-NH 2 wherein R represents wherein m is an integer from 1 to 4, n and n1 are 0 or integers from 1 to 4, R 1 is H, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 , R1 is H, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 or a cyclohexyl radical and p is an integer from 1 to 6, said further salt being used in a proportion of 5 to 20% by weight, preferably 5 to 10% by weight, based on the total weight of salts used to make the copolyamide. The dicarboxylic acid may be adipic, sebacic or dodecanedioic acid and the diamine may be bis – (4 – aminocyclohexyl)- methane, 3 – aminomethyl – 3,5,5 – trimethylcyclohexylamine – 1,2,2 – bis – (4 – aminocyclohexyl)propane, 2,2 – bis – (4 – amino – 3- methyl – cyclohexyl)propane or p – hexahydroxylylenediamine. The polyhexamethylene adipamide and the copolyamide are preferably present in the yarn in the proportion of 1: 1 by weight. The copolyamide is preferably highly crystalline. After spinning, the yarn is stretched, e.g. over a snubbing pin at ambient temperature to a ratio of 3: 1 to 4À6 : 1 and the crimp developed by treatment of the yarn in a tension-free state with boiling water. Alternatively, crimp may be developed in two stages, treatment of the relaxed yarn with a hot gas being followed by boiling water treatment.
