Abstract
1288724 Measuring torque electrically: torque measuring coupling MALMEDIE & CO MASCHINEN FABRIK GmbH 19 April 1971 [20 May 1970] 26049/71 Headings G1N and G1W The mechanical coupling between a drive-shaft and e.g. a cable drum comprises concentric sleeves with a recess between them in which a strain gauge resistor is assembled to measure the transmitted torque. The cable drum is bolted to a shaft plate 10 (Fig. 2), itself bolted to side rings 13, 14. This assembly is mounted on concentric sleeves 17, 18, 19 with an annular gap between parts 18, 19 where strain gauge 22 is located. Drive-shaft 4 is attached to member 19 by an adjusting spring (not shown). Torque is transmitted via radial lugs 17a and barrel-shaped steel members 12 located in matching recesses 11, 17b. The strain gauge 22 is radially in line with barrelshaped members 12 and is therefore not subjected to bending or flexing. Alternative constructions for the interior parts of the coupling are described.
