Abstract
1289374 Conduits RIC WIL Inc 10 July 1970 [14 July 1969] 33710/70 Heading E1C [Also in Division F2] In or for a conduit system, a conduit section comprises a casing, surrounding a pipe and with a plate transverse to the pipe, and a sleeve, secured to one face of the plate and bonded along its length to the casing. As shown in Fig. 1, the plate 21 is welded to a pipe 13, surrounded by glass fibre insulating material 14, and holds another pipe 15 by rings 22, 23, 24 of silicone mica, asbestos &c, which insulate the pipe 15 for the plate. The plate 21 is anchored in concrete 37 and holds the casing section 12 of filament reinforced plastics, e.g. glass fibre reinforced polyester resin, with strengthening sleeves 30 bonded thereto by epoxy resin. The sleeves 30 have a number of holes 37 to assist bonding. At the end of a casing 12, a plate is used to seal the casing, with the casing and a strengthening sleeve secured to the plate. When the casing end is near an anchorage point, the plate is secured to the pipes 13, 15, but when the casing end is removed from an anchorage point, a gasket is compressed between the plate and another plate to seal against the pipes 13, 15 but allowing longitudinal expansion of the pipes. Alternatively, a sealing ring 82 is axially compressed by a relatively movable flange 79 bolted or screwed into a fixed flange 77 on a sleeve 76 extending from the plate 70. In all embodiments, externally exposed surfaces of the plate are coated with epoxy resin. Two adjacent sections of casing 12 are joined by an external sleeve overlapping the sections, the sleeve, initially split, being wrapped around the joint and secured at a longitudinal bevelled joining line by epoxy or polyester cement, which is also used to secure the sleeve to the casing section 12.
