Abstract
1289756 Watches BULOVA WATCH CO Inc 19 Feb 1970 [11 March 1969] 8127/70 Heading G3T A watch for indicating time in different geographic zones has an additional crown 4 which is used both for incremental setting of the zone time shown by an additional hour hand (36) Fig.3 (not shown) and for setting either a date ring 24 or alternatively an alarm. The crown 4 is attached to a stem 5 having a sliding pinion 8 which engages a wheel 16. The wheel 16 is carried on an axle 15 which also forms a pivot of a plate 12. The wheel 16 drives a second wheel (17) and thus wheels 19 and 29 carried on the plate 12. In the inner position of the stem 5, the free end of a spring 20 on the wheel 19 engages teeth 25 on the date ring 24 to advance the latter when the crown 4 is rotated in one direction only. In the reverse direction of rotation, the spring 20 jumps over the teeth 25. An alternative embodiment is described in which the date ring 24 is advanced by a pin on a disc which is driven through a Breguet toothing. In the outer position of the stem 5 a pinion 31, carried loosely on the wheel 29, engages a wheel 33 on an arbor (34) which carries the local time hour hand (36) and also a star wheel 35. Rotation of the crown 4 drives the wheel 31 via a sector (30) and a rib (32) on the wheels 29 and 31 respectively. The wheel 33 is moved to alter the setting of its hand (36) in one hour increments as a spring 38 on a further hour wheel 37 engages the star wheel 35. The gear ratios are so chosen that a conventional hour hand (46) rotates at half the speed of the extra hand (36) i.e. once in twenty four hours.
