Abstract

C. engine intake passages WATERMOTA Ltd 6 Oct 1970 [8 July 1969] 34308/69 Heading F1B Air is directed into a cylinder by an inlet duct 1 substantially at a tangent to the cylinder bore so that the air rotates about the cylinder axis and a tapering longitudinally extending projection 10 is provided in the duct. The projection 10 extends from the upper wall of the duct 1, is of V-cross-section and is tapered to increase in depth and width in a direction towards the valve 9. A duct portion 3 machined in the head provides a sharp intersection 6 with the flat floor of the duct 1 upstream of the valve seat 2. The flat face of the cylinder head co-operates with a recess in the piston to define the combustion chamber and fuel is injected as radial sprays from the centre of the combustion chamber.
