Abstract

1292758 Filaments simulating hair JAPAN EXLAN CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 April 1970] 10005/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Synthetic filaments simulating the hand and drape of natural hair have a bending rigidity EI and a drape index Y (both defined in the Specification) satisfying the equations and are made by spinning a polymer of specific gravity # p under conditions satisfying the following equations wherein a is the longest straight line in the fibre cross-section which passes through the centre of gravity thereof, b is the longest line in the fibre cross-section at right angles to line a (a and b measured in microns), and E is the modulus of elasticity (dyne. cm.2) of the fibres. The filament cross-section may be round, elliptical, dog-boned or other non-circular section, and the spun filaments may be stretched. In examples the following polymers are used: copolyacrylonitrile-methyl acrylate (PAN/MA) NaCNS solution wet spun into aq. NaCNS or DMF solution dry spun or wet spun into ethylene glycol, PAN/MA blended with copolyvinylchloride-vinylidene chloride in DMF solution wet spun into ethylene glycol; PAN/MA blended with a copolymer thereof with vinylidene chloride in NaCNS solution wet spun into aq. NaCNS; PAN/PVC copolymer solution dry spun; and nylon-6 melt spun. Fireproofing and antistatic agents may be incorporated in the spinning melt/solution, e.g. tris(1-bromo-3-chloroisopropyl) phosphate, tris(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate, antimony oxide and glyceryl monostearate. In such case the spinning condition equations are slightly modified.
