Abstract
1295038 Aerosol hair dyeing compositions L’OREAL 4 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 5282/70 Heading D1B Aerosol containers contain hair dyeing compositions (e.g. oxidation dyes) comprising at least one dye microencapsulated in microcapsules of diameter 50-800 microns, the micro-capsules being suspended in a liquid medium which comprises (a) a liquefied propellant, e.g. butane, trichloro-fluoro-methane, dichloro-difluoro-methane or dichloro-tetrafluoro-ethane and optionally (b) an aqueous solution containing dyeing ingredients not microencapsulated. All the ingredients of the composition may be separately microencapsulated or microencapsulated with other compatible ingredients. The microencapsulating material is a low density polyethylene of melting point 106-109‹C or polyvinyl alcohol. In a preferred embodiment the aerosol container contains a first microcapsule containing a stable oxidising agent, e.g. stabilised hydrogen peroxide, the encapsulating material being permeable to the propellent, and second microcapsule containing dye, the encapsulating material being impermeable to the propellant but soluble in water and a third microcapsule containing a base, e.g. ammonia the encapsulating material being permeable to the propellant. The first and third capsules are caused to burst by excess pressure due to propellant and the second by contact with water. Hence the dyeing composition may be formed inside if water is present or outside the container, e.g. by spraying onto moistened hair. The container used is provided with a pressure reducing valve allowing the pressure to fall to atmospheric without allowing dye to leave the container, this valve also acting as an inlet valve to first pressurize the container and also with an inlet valve for additional propellant to repressurise the container for spraying. The reduction to atmospheric pressure causes the propellant permeable microcapsules to burst.
