Abstract
1295879 Sleeve couplings PLESSEY CO Ltd 22 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969] 63471/69 Heading H2E A channel 75 of resilient and malleable insulating material, for example rigid polyvinyl chloride, has side walls 75b which are doubled back at their free edges so as to retain a metal jointing clip 1. The edges of the side walls 1b of the clip fit in the doubled back portion and the ends of the insulating material project beyond the ends of the metal clip. The channel, of which the web 75a may be concave from the outer side, may contain a number of clips spaced along its longitudinal axis, the bottom 1a of each metal clip being, preferably, also concave. Stagging parts 75d of the channel, which project into apertures 2a formed in the clips by deflection of the tabs 2, prevent longitudinal displacement of the clips, which may be of phosphor bronze. The insulating material 75 has a continuous web portion 75a, the side walls 75b of adjacent insulated clips being separated by razor cuts (51, Fig. 3, not shown). Alignment of the metal clip and the insulating channel is facilitated by locating apertures 6, 6a. Two insulated wires to be joined are placed unstripped into the channel, the side walls 1b of which are then pressed down on to the wires enabling sharp-edged projections 4, provided on the clip, to make contact with the metal core of each wire. A multi-clip strip (50) may be loaded in spiral form into a cassette.
