Abstract
1300860 Transformers NATIONAL INDUSTRI AS 30 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 12562/71 Heading HIT An on-load top changer for a regulating transformer comprises a power transfer switch having fixed main contacts H1, H2 and respective auxiliary contacts M1, M2 and a thyristor circuit connected between each main contact and its auxiliary which is capable of conducting in either direction between the two. Resistors R3, R4 in parallel with fuses S1, S2 are connected in series with the thyristor circuits such that, if the circuits do simultaneously conduct resulting in large circulating currents being developed, the fuses S1 and S2 will blow connecting the resistors R3 and R4 in circuit such that they act as conventional transfer resistors. Supply units P1 and P2 are connected between the contacts and a control unit St for the purpose of supplying ignition currents to the thyristors Q1 and Q2 or Q3 and Q4 at the required stages of the top changing operation. This operation, described in detail in the Specification, is such that the thyristor circuits connected across the respective contacts do not simultaneously conduct, therefore preventing circulating alternating currents from being set up when both the contacts M1 and M2 are closed. Other suitable electronic devices may be used in place of the thyristors.
