Abstract

1304724 Polyolefin compositions MOBIL OIL CORP 9 Sept 1970 [9 Oct 1969] 43163/70 Heading C3P Compositions comprise a polyolefin, a phenolic antioxidant which tends to discolour the composition and a surfactant to inhibit discoloration selected from N-hydrocarbyl-N- acyl taurate salts RCONR1C 2 H 4 SO 3 M where R is C 7-31 alkyl, cycloalkyl or unsaturated aliphatic radical, R1 is C 1-12 alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl and M is alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, and C 8-32 alkyl betaines. The polyolefin may be a polymer of ethylene, propylene and/or butene-1. The preferred antioxidant is 2,6- di-t-butyl-p-cresol. The compositions may also contain extenders, e.g. graphite, diatomaceous earth, clays, quartz, sand, metal powders, metal oxides, gypsum, calcium carbonate, wood flour, marble flour, sawdust, mica, ground cork, wood pulp and walnut shell flour; organic and inorganic pigments; and reinforcing fillers, e.g. fibres of wood, glass, cotton, hemp, asbestos, nylon, polyethylene terephthalate or acrylonitrile polymers; and may be moulded into floor tiles, table coverings or counter tops. Examples describe compositions comprising 2,6-di-t-butylp-cresol, chrysotile asbestos and calcium carbonate together with (1) polybutene-1 and sodium N-methyl-N-oleoyl taurate and (2) polybutene-1 and cetyl betaine.
