Abstract

1304809 Rolling NIPPON KOKAN KK 19 April 1971 [7 March 1970] 23717/71 Heading B3M [Also in Division G4] The gauge of a rolled strip is varied during high speed operation of a continuous laden rolling mill without the necessity of reducing the rolling speed. In operation the signals from a pulse generator 9 associated with a deflector roller 2 are counted by a counter PC1 in response to a detector 1 detecting a point on the strip where a change of gauge is to start. A first mill stand 3 is then set to a preselected rolling schedule when the number of pulse signals counted has reached a predetermined value such that the point on the strip where the change of gauge is to start has reached the roll stand 3. Concurrently pulses from a generator 10 associated with the first mill stand are counted. The second mill stand 4 is set to the predetermined rolling schedule when the counted number of pulses from the generator 10 reaches a predetermined value and similar setting operations are repeated for succeeding mill stands 5-7. The predetermined value of the counted number of pulse signals is given by the equation K = lN/#R(1+f) where I = the distance between adjacent mill stands, R = the diameter of the mill roll, N = the number of pulses generated by one revolution of the mill roll, and f = the forward slip, and is preset by means of a correction computor 19 into each of the counters PC1-PC5 associated with the deflector roller and the rolls of the respective mill stand.
