Abstract
1305286 Slip casting GOUGH & CO (HANLEY) Ltd 21 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24678/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] Moulds 38 for forming sanitary closets are conveyed through a series of casting stages by walking beam conveyers 2, 4, 6, a trolley 36 and vertically movable platforms 28, 30. Each walking beam is actuated by rams 8 and is supported on rollers 10 which are guided in cam tracks 12 under the control of spring loaded latches 14, 22. In place of the cam tracks 12, ramps which are raised and lowered for forward and return strokes of the walking beam may be used. Reciprocating operation of the rams 8 causes the rollers 10 to follow track sections 18, 20, 24, 26 and each beam, supported on a crosshead 16, is given a cyclical movement. The platforms 28, 30 are operated by rams 32, 34. In use, a row of moulds 38 carried by an overhang at the end of the conveyer 2 above the platform 28 (which is in its lower position) is lifted one step forward, while at the other end of the conveyer, a row of moulds is carried forward ready for lowering on to the trolley 36 which at this time is being unloaded by the conveyer 4. Simultaneously the conveyer 4 moves a row of moulds above the platform 30 which is in its lower position and which is unloaded by the entry end of the conveyer 6. The other end of this conveyer moves a row of moulds over the platform 28. The platforms are then raised and any necessary work carried out on the moulds supported by the platform 28, the moulds on the trolley 36, and the moulds supported above the platform 30. The walking beams are then retracted and the platforms lowered, the moulds on the platform 28 being retained by the overhang of the walking beam of the conveyer 2. The moulds on the overhang having been prepared for pouring of slip from a dispenser 40, the excess slip is removed in stages by suction devices 42, 44, 46. Initial breakdown of the moulds takes place on the trolley 36, final breakdown and reassembly taking place at the discharge end of the conveyer 4. The moulds are dried for re-use on the conveyer 6 and the moulded closets are dried in a cabinet 48 before being transferred to a roller table 50 for fettling.
