Abstract
1305461 Polymerizing in a multi-stage reactor TISZAI VEGYI KOMBINAT 7 Jan 1970 [7 Jan 1969] 882/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division B1] An acrylic copolymer is produced (see Example 2) by passing a homogenized and preheated starting mixture to the top of a polymerization apparatus (see Divisions B1-B2) which comprises a reaction zone of at least six vertically spaced horizontal trays. The starting mixture comprises methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, xylene (solvent), butyl acetate, benzoyl peroxide, butyl alcohol and diethyl aniline. The mixture passes from tray to tray as a film 0À5-1À5 mm. thick, and is heated from 50‹ to 120‹ C. in the first tray, to 160‹ C. in subsequent trays and cooled in the last two trays to 120‹ and 90‹ C. respectively. A varnish having a viscosity of 120-200 sec. (Ford 4) is obtained. The process is carried out in an inert gas atmosphere.
