Abstract
1306874 Photographic dot images EASTMAN KODAK CO 23 April 1970 [24 April 1969] 19545/70 Heading G2M A random dot image (e.g. suitable for use in preparing a half-tone printing plate) is prepared by (1) exposing a first photographic silver halide emulsion to a continuous tone original image, (2) processing to give a grainy developed silver image, (3) exposing a second photo-sensitive layer to the silver image, and (4) processing the exposed layer to a gamma of at least 4. The grainy silver image may be produced by (a) overexposing and over-developing (b) high-temperature development, (c) using a high-speed coarse grain film, or (d) using a high-activity developer. The second photo-sensitive layer may be in a photo-conductive, lithographic, diazotype or silver halide «lith» material. The random dot image or a positive made therefrom may be used to expose a high-contrast diazotype or lithographic plate material.
