Abstract
1310647 Extruding mineral powders COMMISSARIAT A L’ENERGIE ATOMIQUE and SOC DE FABRICATION D’ELEMENTS CATALYTIQUES 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 23398/71 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions C1 and C7] A spray-cord having an internal core comprising a mineral powder, a mineral compound and an organic binder, and an organic sheath around the core, may be made by simultaneously extruding two pastes through concentric nozzles. The paste for forming the core may be made by mixing molybdenum particles with hydroxyethylmethylcellulose, fibrillary aluminium hydroxide and water. Glycerin is then added, the paste forced through a nozzle having 1 mm. diameter holes, and then compacted in the form of a homogeneous cylinder. The paste for forming the sheath may be made by mixing hydroxyethylmethylcellulose and hot water and then adding glycerine. It is then allowed to stand for at least 48 hours in a sealed container before being formed in a cylinder ready for the extrusion process. After extrusion the cord is dried at 40‹ C. for 24 hours. In other embodiments the molybdenum is replaced by aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide, uranium oxide, nickel aluminide or nickel titanide; and the fibrillary aluminium oxide by aluminium oxychloride, zirconium acetate, uranium nitrate or boric acid. Organic binders used include polyvinyl alcohol and triethanolamine.
