Abstract
1310948 Step-by-step jacks KAWATETSU KIZAI KOGYO CO Ltd 1 June 1970 [4 June 1969 13 Oct 1969] 26242/70 Heading B8J A step-by-step hydraulic jack A comprises a piston-rod 1 attached to a piston 2 sliding in a cylinder 3. Similar clamps 5, 9 are respectively attached to the rod 1 and the cylinder 3. Each clamp, e.g. 5 has a number of segments 6 urged upwards by a spring 8 into engagement with conical surface with which the assembled segments 6 mate. The jack climbs a rod 13 having stop shoulders 14 with which the clamps 5, 9 co-operate. The shoulders 14 are protected inside the jack by a guide 4. A number of the jacks may be used in parallel in construction work. E.g. as shown in Fig. 2 three rods 13 are suspended from a supporting structure 15 through piston and cylinder load equalizers 16. The cylinder chambers 19 of the load equalizers 16 are interconnected by conduits 20, 20a, 20b, 20c, initially pressurized before starting operations and then isolated by valves 21, 22 to ensure even sharing of the load (not shown) between the jacks.
