Abstract
1311043 Gun sights WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON – BUHRLE AG 6 Jan 1971 [9 Jan 1970] 563/71 Heading F3C A gun sight comprises a semi-transparent mirror 18 movably mounted in the line of sight between an observer and a moving target, the movement of the mirror being controlled by a gyroscope 27 as through links 31, and an optical system 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 for projecting the image of a reticle 19 on to the mirror 18. A laser beam range finder 26 is provided the beam from which falls on the mirror 18 in coaxility with the beam projecting the reticle so that the laser beam leaving the gun sight coincides with the line of sight. The mirror 18 is provided with a film for reflecting the whole of the laser beam away from the eye of the observer. The gun sight further comprises means for deflecting the pin axis of the gyroscope by reference to the measured range of the target. The laser may be a neodymium laser emitting a wavelength in the invisible infra-red region. When the sight follows the target relative movement takes place between the sight casing and the gyroscope, the elevational and lateral components of this movement being measured by pick-offs 32 and 33 and the measurements being transmitted to a computing unit 34. The computing unit 34 informs a controller 35 for operating torque motors 36 to drive the gyroscope in elevation and training. The torque motors are opposed by an eddy current device 37, 38, 39 which derives its input from a first,-range control unit 40 and a second, ballistics data control unit 41. The laser beam may be directed directly on to the semi-silvered mirror (Fig. 4, not shown).
