1311072 Testing pulp KALLEREGULATORER AB 16 June 1971 [17 June 1970] 28254/71 Headings D2A and A8B In an apparatus for measuring the degree of heating of cellulose or mechanical pulp flowing through a pipe 3, a sample of pulp is introduced into test cylinder 7 over a strainer plate 20, a fluid pressure applied over the pulp and the rate of passage of water through the strainer plate measured. To fill the cylinder 7, piston 11 is caused to move upwardly from cylinder 9 and pushes disc 19 upwardly by means of hollow rod 18. After moving a short distance, disc 19 abuts strainer plate 20 mounted on hollow tube 21 which is a sliding fit in rod 18. Thereafter, disc 19, strainer plate 20 and plate 29 mounted on the upper end of tube 21 move upwardly and a cover plate 30 is also moved upwardly by plate 29 against springs 33 to place cylinder 7 in communication with conduit 3 Fig. 2 (not shown). Valve 17 is then opened to supply air under pressure to the space above plate 29, and piston 11 is caused to move downwardly, so that the moving parts take up the positions shown in Fig. 1, with the air pressure from conduit 15 being applied over the pulp. The water squeezed from the pulp passes to a vessel 39 where its volume or level after a predetermined time is measured. Water may be supplied through conduit 15 instead of air to pressurize the pulp Fig. 3 (not shown), the measurement then effectively being of the rate of diffusion of water through a fibre cake formed initially at the strainer disc. After a measurement rinse water, possibly mixed with compressed air, is supplied through conduit 27 and passes-out of conduit 37.
