Abstract
1324529 Rope grips A ZELLER 23 Sept 1970 [25 Sept 1969] 45360/70 Heading F2X A rope traction apparatus for gripping and pulling a metal rope of the type provided with two gripping means in line comprises a casing 1 having a guide opening 4 on the side towards the load and an anchoring means 3 on the opposite side. An operating handle 5, manipulated by hand, is pivoted on an axis 6 within the casing 1. When the handle 5 is turned away from the load (i.e. towards the left) a long side-plate 7a moves in the same direction while a short side-plate 7b moves towards the right. Long levers 9a, 9b and short levers 10a, 10b are connected together by bearing 11a, 11b, 12a and 12b on the sideplates 7a, 7b. By means of pairs of pivot bearings 13a and 13b, 13c and 13d, 13e and 13f, and 13g and 13h, each lever is connected with a pair of jaws 14a, 15a and 14b, 15b with the bearings 13a-13d and 13e-13h forming the corners of parallelograms. Two springs 16, each connected to a side-plate at 17a, 17b, produce a preliminary pressure urging the levers 9a, 10a and 9b, 10b into a position so that the rope, from the start, may act upon the jaws. When the handle 5 is moved to the left, the jaws 14a, 15a also move to the left and grip the rope with the area of the parallelogram formed by the pivot bearings 13a-13d decreasing, while the jaws 14b, 15b move to the right and release the rope with the area of the parallelogram formed by the pivot bearings 13e-13h increasing. When the handle 5 is moved to the right, the reverse occurs. In order to move the rope to the right, i.e. to let down the load, a reverse handle 18 is operated; it is linked with the levers 9a, 9b through bearings 19a, 19b and an intermediate lever 20. On operation of the handle 18, when the levers are in gripping inclination, the jaws move back instead of advancing. When a lever 21 is moved clockwise, both pairs of jaws are opened whereby a rope without a load can be easily introduced between each pair of jaws.
