Abstract
1331859 Coating compositions for electrodeposition BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 19 April 1971 [22 Jan 1970] 20120/71 Heading C3P [Also in Division C7] A coating composition capable of electrodeposition on to an electrically conducting article forming the cathode comprises an aqueous solution or dispersion of a copolymer which is present at least partly in the form of a salt with an organic or inorganic acid and which comprises units of (a) 3 to 30% by weight of at least one nitrogen-basic mono-olefinically unsaturated compound, (b) 5 to 60% by weight of 3a,4,5,6,7,7a – hexahydro – 4,7 – methano – indenyl – acrylate – 5 or methacrylate – 5, (c) 5 to 60% by weight of at least one copolymerizable mono-olefinically unsaturated derivative of at least one oxa-alcohol and (d) 0 to 50% by weight of at least one further copolymerizable mono-olefinically unsaturated monomer not mentioned under (a) to (c) the sum of the percentages given in (a) to (d) being 100%. The composition may also comprise additional water-soluble or water-dispersible binders, such as amino resins, phenolic resins, epoxy resins, appropriately modified alkyd resins or mixtures thereof, and other additives such as pigments, curing catalysts and flow improvers. In the examples: (1) the copolymer comprises 30% of 3a,4,5,6,7,7a – hexahydro – 4,7 – methano – indenyl-acrylate-5, 30% of ethyl-diethyleneglycol acrylate, 10% of diethyl-#-aminoethyl acrylate, 25% of methyl acrylate and 5% of styrene, and is neutralized with acetic acid, and the composition also contains isopropanol, n-propanol and titania, and (2) the copolymer comprises 15% of 3a,4,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-4,7-methanoindenyl-acrylate-5, 40% of n-butyl-tri-ethylene glycol methacrylate, 5% of N-(#-dimethylaminoethyl)-acrylamide, 30% of n-butylacrylate and 10% of styrene and is neutralized with acetic acid, and the composition also contains isopropanol, n-propanol and titania.
