C. engine cylinder heads KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 10 Nov 1970 [10 Nov 1969] 53493/70 Heading F1B A light-metal cylinder head 1 has a two-part plate 8 of a material of greater tensile strength inserted in its end face which is adapted to face the engine combustion chamber or chambers. A region 9 or regions of the plate 8 subject to high thermal stress are provided with cooling ducts 10. The ducts 10 are formed by drilling or milling in the contacting surfaces of the plate parts prior to joining by welding at their periphery. The coolant may be lubricant from the engine lubrication system or an independent system. In other than air-cooled engines the ducts 10 may be connected to the main engine cooling system.
