Abstract
1332539 Asbestos millboard NICOLET INDUSTRIES Inc 21 July 1971 34146/71 Heading C3N [Also in Division D2] An asbestos millboard comprises asbestos fibres and a binder, the binder comprising finely divided silica, having a particle size in the submicron range, calcium lime and bentonite clay in the proportions 1À5-7 (preferably 5-7), 3-9 (preferably 5-9), and 1À5-5 (preferably 3-5) respectively, by weight on a dry basis. The asbestos fibres may comprise a mixture of chrysotile (15-45%) and anthophyllite asbestos fibres (40-55%) optionally with amosite asbestos fibres (0-25%), percentages being based on the weight of the millboard. A specific example describes an asbestos millboardconsisting of 21% by weight chrysotile asbestos fibres, 15% by weight amosite asbestos fibres, 47% by weight anthophyllite asbestos fibres, 5% by weight finely divided silica, 7% by weight calcium lime and 5% by weight bentonite clay. A suitable finely divided silica has a particle size of 50 millimicrons. The millboard is produced by dumping an aqueous furnish of the ingredients on to a screen and then applying the necessary pressure. The boards are subsequently dried and find application as lehr rolls in glass manufacture.
