Abstract
1341468 Detecting signalling currents INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 16 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970 (2)] 58431/71 Headings H3T H3U and H4R A multitone receiver for use in a telecommunication system has its input from a common control 10 brought to an input amplifier which includes a filter 17 for rejecting all signals below 680 Hz and a following operational amplifier which has a set threshold level of – 22 dBV, Fig. 2 (not shown). Filter 17 consists of cascaded T-filters designed to give a sharp cut-off at 680 Hz, Fig. 5 (not shown). The following filters 20, 22 separate out the high and low tones that make up a valid input signal, the low pass filter having an upper pass frequency of 965 Hz and the high pass filter 22 having a low pass frequency of 1180 Hz. Both filters are similarly constructed of four transistorized cascaded T-stages followed by two cascaded T-stages each with its own operational amplifier, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). The separate high and low group signals are passed through a limiter circuit 30 where they are converted into a square wave form if their amplitude passes an acceptance threshold. The circuit, Fig. 9 (not shown). includes a pair of high gain operational amplifiers which have reference voltages applied to their inputs from resistive potential divider chains to give an on/off characteristic. Crosscoupled NAND gates are used to provide the square wave output which is supplied to the groups of band pass filters 40-43, 44-47. Each of the band-pass filters is turned to pass a particular tone frequency and comprises two filter stages in series, each stage comprising an operational amplifier shunted by a twin-T feedback path. The pass frequencies of the stages are not quite the same so that a flat response around the central signal frequency is obtained, Fig. 8 (not shown). The signals from the band pass filters are checked in detector 60 to ensure that they are correctly grouped, i.e. one high and one low, have the correct amplitude and duration. If they are valid D.C. spikes are passed on the respective ones of leads 70-77 into memories 80, 82 which are enabled by a validity pulse on line 84. The signals are stored and passed to decoder 100 which converts the signals into decimal or binary decimal form to supply further equipment. The filter 17 consists of 8 cascaded stages with the resistors in the first five stages descending in magnitude and the resistor in the sixth stage being greater than the first resistor and those in the subsequent stages again are smaller. The capacitors and resistors in filters 20, 22 increase and decrease in value respectively over the first three stages of the filters.
