Abstract

1348034 Vertical deflection circuit RCA CORPORATION 13 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 14768/71 Heading H3T In a vertical deflection circuit using a class B output stage of complementary, series-connected transistors 40, 50, having their joined emitter connected to a deflection coil 80A, 80B and their bases to a driver transistor 30, the base of the transistor (40) which is conductive during the fllyback period is coupled to means which clamps the peaks of the flyback pulse to a constant potential. This maintains the amplitude of the sawtooth wave produced constant. As shown, the means is a Zener diode 36. The circuit is a self oscillating Miller integrator using integrating capacitor 61 connected to a resistor 57 in series with the deflection coils 80A, 80B, positive feedback being provided through a resistor 101. Diode 63 permits the capacitor to discharge only to 0À6 volts and consequently when the integrator operates by transistor 100 turning off, the Vbe of transistor 20 is instantly cancelled so avoiding a step in the sawtooth wave produced. To avoid «pin-cushion effect», horizontal waveform components are fed-in at H, H1 through the vertical deflection coil, this consequent interference in the integrator circuitry being avoided by shunting the coil 80B with a capacitor 90 whose impedance is half that of the impedance of the coil 80B to the horizontal waveform components. This produces a current through capacitor 90 in the opposite sense to that through coil 80B and of twice the magnitude. When impressed across resistor 87, it is the opposite sense to the current through resistor 86 and, due to the horizontal waveform and the currents cancel. Series tuned circuit 103, 015 and capacitor 55 also aid suppression of the horizontal wave. «S» correction is effected by double integration in 91 1 -95 of the sawtooth waveform. Interaction of the height control 10 and frame hold controls 56 is avoided by appropriate feedback via resistor 52. Variations in the EHT supply +KDC are also coupled in this network to cancel any effects EHT variations may have on picture size. «Sync.» is provided via differentiator 111, 112 and via integrator 115, 58.
