Abstract

1348243 Stacking sheets PILKINGTON BROS Ltd J H PURSLOW and J E HALL 27 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 20980/70 Heading B8R Glass sheets 100, Fig. 1, are delivered in succession on to a receiving table 1, Figs. 1 and 3, and thence transferred by means of reciprocating pushers 14 secured to chains 9 on to the top of a stack on a stacking table 2, being positively urged by the pushers and slightly more slowly rotating wheels 16 against retractable front stop 3, the table 2 comprising endless conveyers 23. When the required number of sheets, as determined by a counter, has been stacked, the stops are retracted and the conveyers 23 driven to move the stack over bridging conveyers 43 on to a tilt table 4 comprising conveyers 46 which move the sheets against stops 5, the table 4 then being tilted to a vertical position and the stack removed. As each sheet is pushed on to the stack, it is supported by a curtain of gas produced by blowing nozzles 18 so as to settle lightly on to the preceding sheet. After each sheet is deposited on the stack, the table 2 is lowered the thickness of a sheet by screw jacks 38, which raise the stack rapidly on completion thereof to the level of the table 4. The sheets can be delivered on to the table 1 by an operator from a table 54 on which they can be cut to desired size. The moving parts are driven by electric motors and synchronized by a plurality of limit switches controlled by the movement of the sheets and of the stack and table 4. An operator initiates by push-button control the movement of the table 4, the drive of the conveyers 23, 46 to transfer a completed stack, and the movement of the pushers to transfer single sheets to the stack, except that this movement for the first sheet of a stack is automatically increased by the movement of the preceding stack from the table 2. In another form, Fig. 8, three sheets are fed side by side by roller conveyers 71, 72, 73 on to the receiving table. A frame 75 is then raised by jacks 76 to bring conveyer belts 74 above the level of the roller conveyers, whereupon the sheets are fed towards the stacking table 77, each sheet being pushed on to the stack by oscillating pushers 82 which engage its trailing edge. The table 77 is similar to the table 2. If sheets for example of different widths are fed by the conveyers 71, 72, 73, a plurality of stacking stations may be arranged along those conveyers, the sheets of different widths being stacked at different stations.
