Abstract

1348351 Heating and ventilating vehicles SOC ANON FRANCAISE DU FERODO 26 Jan 1972 [26 Jan 1971 11 Jan 1972] 3696/72 Headings F4V and F4S A shutter for regulating fluid flow across the tubes of a finned-tube heat exchanger is pivoted on a bearing plate such as 12, mounted on the tube or tubes of the heat exchanger. The device is intended for use in an air heating or conditioning heat exchanger in a dwelling or in a motor vehicle. As shown, the heat exchanger comprises finned tubes 8 extending between headers 9, 10. The bearing plate 12 is mounted centrally of the tube length and has an integral boss 17 in which the shutter 25 is pivoted, the shutter being actuated by a rod or cable 30 passing through a channel 21 in the bearing plate. Two end bearing plates 22, 23 are provided or alternatively the end bearings may be provided by bosses on the tube headers (Figs. 6, 7). In this latter embodiment, the shutter is in two interconnected parts (43, 44) extending respectively over each side of a central bearing plate. In a relatively short-length heat exchanger the centre plate 12 may be omitted the shutter mounting being provided by plates such as 22 or 23 one or other of these having a channel therein for the rod or cable 30. The heat exchanger shown is mounted in an air duct 6 and is secured by a bolt 7 on a wall 4 of a motor vehicle to supply conditioned air to a space 2. The air entry 6a is located in front of the vehicle windscreen. A plate 24 confines air entry to the heat exchanger to that side which is closable by operation of the shutter 25.
