Abstract
1349400 Oxidation catalysts W R GRACE & CO 22 Oct 1971 [22 Oct 1970 (3)] 49203/71 Heading B1E [Also in Divisions Cl and F1] A porous, ceramic catalyst support is produced by extracting plasticiser from a homogenious shaped composition comprising 5-67 volume % of a polyolefin having a molecular weight of at least 150,000 and a standard load melt index of substantially zero, 15-18 volume % of a ceramic filler, and 15-18 volume % of a plasticiser heating the polyolefin to remove it as gaseous decomposition products and firing. Example 42 describes impregnation of the porous support with catalyst by immersion in copper-palladium and copper-palladium-manganese solutions, and vacuum impregnation with chromia producing a porous support impregnated with 4.64% by weight Cr 2 O 3 , 6.96 wt % MnO 2 , 4.64 weight % CuO and 0.02 weight % Pd. Examples of plasticisers, ceramic fillers, and polyolefins are given in the Specification.
