Abstract
1349597 Photographic processing apparatus ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP 19 April 1971 [27 April 1970] 27107/71 Heading G2A Exposed diazotype sheets are developed by apparatus comprising a rotatably mounted applicator roller 52 having a surface adapted to carry a predetermined quantity of developer liquid issuing from a supply pipe 100, a wiper blade 86 for removing excess developer liquid from the roller surface, and a pressure blade 88 which forms a developing zone 118 along an area of contact between the pressure blade and the roller surface, the blades being movable into and out of engagement with the roller by an interconnecting linkage member during and after operation of the apparatus. The blades are formed of flat, resilient sheet metal and the roller has a central shaft 54 of metal and an outer layer 56 of a smooth non-porous resilient material such as rubber. The blades are operated by the mechanism shown in Fig.2. Arms 144, 146 are connected to the ends 148, 150 of tubular shafts 90, 92 which carry the blades 86, 88, and each arm carries a cam follower roller 160, 162 disposed within cams 164, 166 formed in a cam plate 128. During operation of the apparatus, an electric motor rotates cam plate 128 initially through 40 degrees to move only blade 86 into contact with the roller. At the same time roller 52 rotates and developer liquid is pumped to tube 100. After a delay of three seconds to permit the roller surface 58 to be evenly coated with liquid, cam plate 128 is moved through a further 80 degrees so that blade 88 is brought into contact with roller 52. A sheet fed into the apparatus along guide 122 will now be fed past the developing zone to exit via aperture 124 in a substantially dry to touch state. The cam plate carries cam surfaces T 1 , T 2 , T 3 on its periphery to engage followers 140, 142 which operate contacts 136a, 136b, 138a, 138b. These contacts together with a manually actuated switch (182) Fig.4 (not shown) controls the apparatus so that upon operation of the manual switch to a copy demand position the apparatus is automatically operated in the correct sequence, and upon operation of the manual switch to its initial position the apparatus is restored to a standby condition with the blades out of contact with the roller. The blades are disposed on opposite sides of the roller so as to equalise the pressure forces thereon.
