Abstract

1349784 Stamping; controlling punching and shearing machines; forging MINSTER MACHINE CO 19 May 1971 [21 Sept 1970] 15803/71 Headings B3Q B3W and B3H [Also in Division G3] A press is automated by an electric control system, see Divisions G2-G3, comprising a controller which, in response to read information selects a die-set from a store and transfers it to an operative position to which a stock material is automatically fed. As shown, Fig. 1A, a press 10 has a bed 12 on which is mounted a bolster plate 18 juxtaposed to a crank-shaft-driven press slide 20 which, together, carry a detachable die-set 22 and a cut-off die 24 discharging into a shoot 26. The selected die-set is placed into the working space of the press from a turret type die-store and transfer device 28. The shut height of the press is automatically adjusted by a motorized screw, not shown, and the stock is automatically held during a pressing operation by a clamp 126. The stock to be pressed is automatically and selectively fed from a stationary frame (Fig. 1D), having spindles for supporting a pair of reels, through a straightening device from which the stock can also be automatically returned to the reels. The stock is fed into the press through a guide device 72, Fig. 1B, from a table 76, connected by a flexible member 74, which is held at an angle by an hydraulic ram 82 except during the initial and final portion of a run of a selected die-set. The table has side rails 86 providing a bell-mouth entry for the stock. The stock is fed at a controlled rate in the device 72 by a motor 106 and the feed is synchronized with the press crank-shaft through a member 122 and a cam 120 whereby a pressure roller 104 is released when the press slide is fully extended. Guides of the device 72 are automatically positioned laterally by a reversible geared motor 100. The press operation may be punching, shearing, coining, stamping.
