Abstract
1349806 Doffing and donning; cradles JONATHAN LOGAN Inc 30 April 1971 [1 May 1970] 12539/71 Heading D1J Synthetic yarn 7 is textured at 14 (Fig. 2) and wound on a package P supported on arms 24, 25 which, when the package is fully wound, are clutched to a constantly oscillating shaft 26, swinging the package to a chute 42 where the arms are spread apart to doff it, and are then swung back, being moved together during their swing to grasp a new empty core 21 and bring it into contact with drive drum 22. The shaft 26 serves a plurality of winding stations. The arms 24, 25 are pivoted at 75 to a tube 33 carrying cams arranged to actuate microswitches SW1 &c, e.g. on completion of-winding, when a solenoid 32 is operated to connect tube 33 with oscillating shaft 26 by means of a pin. Followers, movable along the arms, follow a cam track 70 on the outward swing, and track 71 on the return, during which they engage ramps in the tracks, spreading the arms to release the package, and bringing them together again to grip an empty core tube as they pass a supply device 62, which is swung upward (Fig. 4) about pivot 64 to avoid collision with the full package during its outward swing. During the doffing swing a wire guide 36 is swung upward by solenoid 48, disengaging the yarn from a traverse guide and, in cooperation with a fixed guide wire 38 moving the yarn to a position where it is cut by a blade 55 and then caught and taken up by a suction tube 41. When a new core is in the winding position another pivoted guide 39 (Fig. 6) is moved to position the yarn for severing by a blade. 59, whereupon it is taken up by the empty core.
