Abstract
1352343 Laminated products IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 June 1971 [6 July 1970] 32670/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division B8] In a method of, and apparatus for aligning and lapping sheets, e.g. grooved metal sheets intended to form the bottom facing of a laminate comprising a rigid layer of foam between upper and lower facings, successive sheets are fed to a roller conveyer 5 where they are aligned and maintained in alignment by guide rollers 3 pressing down thereupon and are transferred at a relatively fast speed on to a carrier substrate moving at a relatively slow speed, e.g. a moving web 9 of paper, the substrate being located adjacent to and higher than the output end of the conveyer 5 so that a succeeding sheet 2 so transferred is lapped by the higher trailing end of a preceding sheet 1. The conveyer may comprise rollers 6, skewed with respect to the direction of feed so as to urge the sheets against a side guide 8, and rollers 7 moving faster than the web 9 to facilitate lapping. The web may feed the sheets to a laminating machine where foam (12), Fig. 4 (not shown); is applied. The guide rollers 3 may engage in the grooves of the sheets and spacers (4) Fig. 3 (not shown) may be clipped on to the leading edges of the sheets to determine the degree of lapping.
