Abstract
1353963 Screw sockets TRW Inc 18 Oct 1971 [22 Oct 1970] 48254/71 Heading F2H A fastener 2, made for example of nylon, for snap-fitting in an opening 4 in a workpiece 6 has an enlarged head 12 and a body 16 comprising two or more opposed legs 18 together defining a bore 20, the legs being spreadable by engagement of a screw in internal grooves 32 in the bore to anchor the fastener, and an integral flexible and inturned web 22 extending sinuously between the longitudinal and terminal edges of the legs to completely close the bore and so seal the screw in an aperture. The bore is approximately equal in diameter with the screw shank, and as the screw threads cut into the grooves 32, the legs are spread but the web 22 however is only slightly, if at all, contacted by the screw threads and remains unruptured. The legs 16 have inclined external surfaces 24, 28 each side of shoulders 26 to facilitate seating of the fastener in an opening. A conventional sealing lip or bead or a washer may be provided at the head 12 to enhance the seal about the opening 4.
