Abstract
1355035 Automatic circuit-breakers EDWARD WILCOX & CO Ltd 27 May 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 9500/70 Heading H1N A moulded case circuit-breaker comprises a contact assembly incorporating a first armature 12 and a moving contact 11, a permanent magnet 13 normally attracting the armature 12 and holding the contacts 11, 17 closed. Tripping means 20 are operable to move a second armature 18 towards the magnet to divert some of the flux away from the first armature 12 so that a spring 16 is then able to move the first armature away from the magnet 13 to open the contacts. When this occurs, a spring 24 acting on the handle 23 breaks the toggle formed by the handle and a link 15, so that the handle moves to the off position and the magnet 13 is moved into contact with the armature 12, the armature 18 also returning to its initial position so that the circuit breaker is reset ready for reclosing.
