1357893 Machine supports HAWTHORN LESLIE (ENG) Ltd 13 Aug 1971 [19 May 1970] 24074/70 Heading F2X A machine is secured to a fixed support or foundation 7, 11 by means of a plurality of devices each comprising lower and upper plates 1, 2 having parallel rectilinear corrugations and with a layer 3 of deformable material located between them. By causing the layer 3 to adhere to the plates, it may often be employed without any further restraint in the vertical direction. When large separating forces are involved, however, connecting means are necessary and in one example bolts 4 extend through holes 5 in the lower plate 1 in a tight fit and through corresponding holes 5 in the upper plate 2 in a loose fit to allow the upper plate 2 to move relative to the lower plate 1 in the direction of the corrugations, the bolts 4 (only one shown) being secured to a plate 8, spaced from an upper flange 9 on the machine by a layer of resilient material, and to the foundation 7, 11. The upper plate 2 fits into a recess in a lower flange 6 on the machine and the lower plate 1 rests on the foundation member 7. The bolts 4 have sufficient flexibility to take up any relative lateral movement due to thermal expansion between the machine and the foundation. The holes 5 in the lower and upper plates 1, 2 may be of the same diameter with the bolts 4 having a portion of reduced diameter where they pass through the upper plate 2 (as shown), or the bolts 4 could be of uniform diameter with the holes in the upper plate 2 larger than those in the lower plate 1. One of the devices is introduced at each support point requiring a degree of horizontal flexibility and oriented so that the axis of its corrugations lies along the local direction of thermal expansion. The corrugation axes of the various devices should all coincide at a common point which will be the position where the machine remains stationary relative to the foundation.
